(8,614 posts)to intervene wherever possible. They already removed one of their chief oil rivals by getting W and PNAC to invade Iraq.
Now they sense their power over US policy is slipping so they gin up fear of an attack. It is too much like the alleged threat levels during Bush/Cheney. The timing and the vague nature of the so-called threat are suspect on the face of it.
Iran is in no condition to set off on a new adventure with so much turmoil at home. The potential for that to backfire is great indeed.
The question to ask is what is happening right now in SA that would benefit Iran attacking? What purpose is served by a regime under considerable domestic threat raising the stakes at home by antagonizing SA? I don't see any purpose served by inviting some kind of response from either the US or NATO.
