Where I live, we're stuck with one of those terrible cable monopoly laws. Which really sucks, because our *ONLY* choice for ISP is Spectrum and they blow. Apparently there have been efforts to overturn them, but they've gone nowhere in the courts.
And there's no competition either. It took us like 15 years before we finally caught up with the rest of the world and got cable internet. Now it's probably going to take even longer than that to get fiber. If I could switch to Google Fiber tomorrow, I'd do it faster than you could blink.
The cable monopoly laws I kind of get back when mom and pop cable companies existed. But now those are no longer a thing and they've been replaced with mega conglomerates like Spectrum and Charter.
Lack of competition is just as bad as industry consolidation. It's basically one pile of shit vs another pile of shit.
