39. The prayer thing. Easy avoidance disguised - by some - as caring.

Prayer - I’m sorry. I just don’t see how that helps much, in this case, except maybe an attempt at finding some comfort or consolation. But some imperious new-power-position man says the solution is praying.

Not here, though.

The solution is to GET RID OF THE DAMN GUNS!!!

I heard lots of coverage of the mental illness escape clause. It was widely pointed out that in other countries there’s mental illness too. But nobody in those other countries deals with it by grabbing a hand-held massacre machine and mowing down a lot of innocent people with it. I kept hearing the comment “only in America.” And “uniquely American.” And the only differential on earth was guns. Guns HERE IN AMERICA. Guns so easy to get and available all over everywhere and hey, you can build your own arsenal if you want to. Be your own fucking Pentagon if you want to.

I lost two friends because there was a gun in their house within east reach when an argument grew too heated. I’m still sad about it. And hurt. And angry. And angry because the most effective solution, the best preventive action, is the one we repeatedly refuse to take.

It’s the goddamn GUNS.

Dammit.

If I could, I’d take every last goddamn one of ‘em away. ALL the guns. AWAY.
