In reply to the discussion: 'More emboldened by the day': Trump's holiday attack on court clerk sparks horror [View all]PatSeg
(53,214 posts)91. I read a novel many years ago
It took place in Germany in the 1930s and it described the anxiety and fear experienced by sane, rational people as they watched the madness grow around them. When Trump moved into the White House, I watched these crazed MAGA crowds and I felt that I could relate to the fears of those people in Germany.
More recently I read Erik Larson's In the Garden of Beasts: Love, Terror, and an American Family in Hitler's Berlin and it felt like history was repeating itself. I recognized the "Brown Shirt" thugs in many of the Trump supporters. If his followers had a better understanding of history, they would know what happens to people like them.

Not unlike the cult members of Jonestown, Manson Family, Branch Davidians, Rajneesh, Heaven's Gate, etc.

Exactly! Maybe one day they'll admit to what has essentially been the equivalent of giving an axe to an axe murderer.

But could this happen? I think your idea is the only way out of this frightening development.

If not Trump directly executing his 'enemies', he will indirectly encourage his followers to do it.

Pretty low on enemies list. Really, the man is way off the rails. He won't make it through the election cycle.
