(10,310 posts)I personally believe that there was always a tone of racism lying underneath it, that the civil wars, the coups detat, the corruption, and the replacement of rule of law by dictatorship was something a lot of Americans in and out of ruling circles believed was at least partially caused by the Latin Americans being (supposedly) inferior brown people and not of European descent. This strand began to gather more strength while Dubya was President (Although to give Dubya credit, he opposed it), then came into full flower when Donald John began running for president. This strand is still very much there and is likely to linger in Republican voter psychology for decades to come.
That Latin American countries can and do occasionally prosecute and even jail crooked ex-presidents is something I dont think little MAGAs want to think about.
