I met all the Democrats at one time or another. Hammerschmidt was an institution, and the only close race he had was against a 28-year-old upstart named Bill Clinton. That was the same year that Bumpers primaried Senator Fulbright, and Richard Nixon resigned.

The trip from Fayette Nam to Bentonville was pretty arduous if you took 71 through Springdale, and it would take you past a couple of drive-in movie theaters-- the Grove, and Twin Cities. You could also take 112 up to B'ville, and that would take you past the turnoff to Suzie Wong's, which had a kind of reputation among high schoolers, although I never found out exactly what it was There was also a drive-in around there as well, but I don't remember the name.

Frank Broyles was also an institution, and if I'm not mistaken, Bill Montgomery was the UofA quarterback during The Game of the Century, which Richard Nixon attended. Quite a heartbreaker for Arkansas fans
