In reply to the discussion: Rep. Jasmine Crockett enters Democratic primary for U.S. Senate [View all]summer_in_TX
(3,999 posts)Crockett could well win the primary. But I agree that her entry into the race boosts Republican chances of winning the race in November.
Why? She is a fighter, which primary voters long for although Talarico is far from a wimp. Their styles are very different.
But her fighting style is very partisan and edgy. General election voters are likely to find her harsh and unlikeable.
Talarico is very likable. He rightly fights the billionaire class, but he is never ugly in his remarks. Plus no one can refute the Christian right like he can. Talarico can get bipartisan support that she will not be able to get. I hope he beats her anyway, but primary voters of both parties tend to be the most partisan voters. It takes a lot of work to research candidates and vote in a primary whereas in the general election you can go with the party of the candidates. In 2022, if I remember correctly, only about 7% of Texas Dems voted in the primary statewide.
