In reply to the discussion: Rep. Jasmine Crockett enters Democratic primary for U.S. Senate [View all]Trueblue Texan
(4,134 posts)This is Texas. If you think a black woman (an amazing, STELLAR candidate) has a better chance of winning than a white Christian man who merely has a softer way of addressing injustices and hypocrisy, then I don't think you understand this state very well. I think they have an equal chance of winning. A lot of people here know Texans have been getting shafted for the 30 years Rethugs have been in charge. But many of those same people will have difficulty voting for black woman because they are scared of them. It's outrageous, but it's true. Those same people have also been brainwashed to believe that Dems are crazy radicals. Talarico is nothing if not sane and the calm way he presents his case will allow people to hear that the policies Democrats are advocating are sound and based on common sense. His authentic Christian values will help people realize they have more in common with Dem values than they've been led to believe. I'm not arguing for either candidate--I love them both and I have no idea who will win. Like you, I wish we didn't have to make this kind of choice, especially right now. But that's the way the Rethugs in Austin planned it.
