Most Americans Don't Buy Trump Admin's Minneapolis Shooting Defense [View all]

A new survey conducted by YouGov has revealed that a majority of Americans do not believe the fatal shooting of Renee Nicole Good by an ICE agent in Minneapolis was justified. According to the poll, 52 percent of respondents believe that agent Jonathan Ross’s use of force was "not justified," while only 28 percent defend the action. Furthermore, 53 percent of participants believe the agent should face criminal charges.

The results show a massive divide along party lines; 88 percent of Democrats and 58 percent of independents find the killing unjustified, whereas 61 percent of Republicans defend the agent's actions. While Trump administration officials claim the agent acted in self-defense, local leaders like Minneapolis Mayor Jacob Frey and Minnesota Governor Tim Walz maintain that Good posed no threat and that ICE is creating chaos in the city.

The report also notes that Vice President JD Vance defended the agent, stating, "This is a federal issue; that guy is protected by absolute immunity and was just doing his job." On the other hand, President Donald Trump took to social media to accuse Minnesota Democrats of supporting "anarchists" and declared, "The day of reckoning and retribution is coming!"

Amidst this escalating tension, Minnesota Attorney General Keith Ellison, along with the mayors of Minneapolis and St. Paul, announced a joint lawsuit to end the "unlawful and unprecedented" surge of ICE agents in the state. In response, the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) announced that hundreds of additional agents would be deployed to Minneapolis.
