Admirable and brave, and it's not my place to have 20/20 hindsight, but I was always taught that things are replacable, people aren't...

When I was a kid I was in a drugstore with my aunt -- I was playing around in toy section while she was at the register right next to the door. A shoplifter was making a dash for the door, someone cried out "STOP HIM" and my aunt who was in her 50s then, tried to stand in the way and block the door and the thief bowled her over as he ran away...She was bruised, but OK

My aunt would never usually try something like that, but it's human nature to do something when there's that adrenaline surge and only a split-second to decide on action/inaction...
