(4,138 posts)I was a kid in the 80s and I had a friend with a fundie mom who was constantly feeding him stories about the evils of Dungeons and Dragons sourcebooks (Did you know that they are completely impervious to fire!) I thought that she was weird and gullible, but it wasn't until I was in college (and the Wenatchee case started turning up in the media) that I realized that there were a large and powerful group of people in this country that literally believed that the devil and his agents were everywere, and were prepared to ruin lives and reputations to combat his influence.
Like the Akiki case, in Wenatchee, justice eventually prevailed, but not before completely fucking up dozens of lives, and turning the whole town into a pit of paranoia and suspicion that you normally only see in the more heavy-handed Twilight Zone episodes.
