Go down to use of weapons, and multiply the known and unknown assailants times the respective percentages that involved a gun. Notice how knives are used more than guns. Why is this? Well, presumably, the rapist doesn't want to accidentally shoot himself while he is raping. So, moving forward under open carry: the rapist doesn't want to shoot himself or be shot by his victim. Hence, a decrease in rapes. And if a couple of rapists get killed, oh well... It is getting down to self-preservation.

As I understand it, there is no background check required for the purchase of a firearm in TN.
