(11,065 posts)That decision was made right from the beginning. The county and the FBI are. The FBI has also been requested to do their own autopsy.
With so much scrutiny and so many other agencies involved there's no way anything is going to be able to be spun in one direction or the other. More often than not it's the police department pissed off about corruption because that usually comes from the prosecutor on up the ladder.
Read up on the Palladium club shooting back in the early 90's I think it was where the police where completely thwarted and the wrong people rotted in prison for the crime no matter what evidence officers came up with to show it was the wrong people and pointing out who was the right ones. I still don't know if both of the wrong people inexplicably jailed for years were ever let out. I think one of them was after about 15 years, but not sure about the other one. Stomach churning corruption that was, but it wasn't by the police. At least one of the officers quit and continued to pursue the matter on his own he was so disgusted. I'm pretty sure there's also a Dateline or 48 Hours show about it. From what I remember the prosecutor at the time had risen to a pretty high up political position and tried to thwart the new information six ways to Sunday. And the scumbucket still claims that the right people went to jail for that even though at least one of them was finally let out.
That's one of the worst cases I can think of off the top of my head, but this crap happens all the time.
