In reply to the discussion: Singer Joe Cocker Dies at 70 (Report) [View all]Dr Hobbitstein
(6,568 posts)57. I was born in 1980, so I grew up with his 80s ballads that I didn't care for.
Then came "The Wonder Years", which had the beautiful intro, searing guitars, and this raspy soulful voice that I fell in love with as an pre-teen. Now, at 35, I've rediscovered much of his back catalog, but to me... This version is THE version. Of course, I didn't discover the Beatles until my teens, I heard his first, and much prefer it.
He will be missed.

He is one of the only people that could take a great Beatles song and make it better.
