Four people were shot and another was punched in the face Friday afternoon during an attempted robbery of a Shawnee gun store, police said.

The gunfight broke out after four robbers entered She’s A Pistol, at 57th Street and Nieman Road, about 2:10 p.m.

One robber struck the store’s female co-owner in the face, police said. The shooting started after that. Police didn’t know who fired first or how the gun battle unfolded, but it left the other co-owner and two robbers with critical gunshot wounds. A fourth person had less-serious gunshot injuries.

Two of the robbers fled the store, shedding some of their clothing as they ran, police said. They tried to get inside a nearby home and ended up hiding in the screened-in porch. The resident, who had heard the gunfire, already had dialed 911. ... Police arrested all four alleged robbers.

Gee, holding up a gun store seemed like such a good idea at the time. I mean, what could go wrong?

I read years ago about someone who held up a runners' equipment shop (you know: running shoes, shorts) and tried to escape on foot. The owner simply locked up the shop and took off after him. The robber did not get away.

Hope survivors get well. Just goes to show, robbers don't target "no gun zones" as gunners tell us. Hoyt Jan 2015 #6
