6. Dump Trump?

Trump still has at least 80% approval from the Republican party. Sure, if they dumped Trump maybe 1-3% of Democratic voters would vote Republican. In polls of Democratic voters there are always 1-3% that seem to agree more with Republicans.
And if the Republicans dumped Trump they would probably get more support among the third of voters who don't vote. But would those non-voters actually vote? Probably 1-2% would. Remember, through thick and thin, there has been about a one third nonvoting rate and nothing has changed that.
But if the Republicans dumped Trump it would really infuriate their base, 80% of whom are maga. The Republican leadership has tried to marginalize Trump off and on for a decade, even before he was elected. But he was, and remains, one of the most popular politicians with their base in the country. If Republicans dumped him, the Republican party would be hard pressed to win any election in the country. And they know that.
