In reply to the discussion: ''Money trumps peace.'' -- pretzeldent George W Bush, Feb. 14, 2007 [View all]calimary
(89,331 posts)6. Welcome to DU to you, too, czarjak!
Glad you're here as well! We need you! Yeah, I think that would be their favorite god/patron saint: Supply-Side Jesus! SHHHHH!!!! DO NOT quote that Scripture story wherein Our Lord advised the rich young man to abandon all his wealth and possessions and come follow Him - if he wanted to get into Heaven.
Found it - AND another one, too:
Matthew 19:16-22 - Jesus Counsels the Rich Young Ruler
https://www.biblegateway.com/passage/?search=Matthew+19%3A16-22&version=NKJV
16 Now behold, one came and said to Him, Good[a] Teacher, what good thing shall I do that I may have eternal life?
17 So He said to him, Why do you call Me good?[ b ] No one is good but One, that is, God.[c] But if you want to enter into life, keep the commandments.
18 He said to Him, Which ones?
Jesus said, You shall not murder, You shall not commit adultery, You shall not steal, You shall not bear false witness, 19 Honor your father and your mother,[d] and, You shall love your neighbor as yourself. [e]
20 The young man said to Him, All these things I have kept from my youth.[f] What do I still lack?
21 Jesus said to him, If you want to be perfect, go, sell what you have and give to the poor, and you will have treasure in heaven; and come, follow Me.
22 But when the young man heard that saying, he went away sorrowful, for he had great possessions.

Mark 10:17-31 - The Rich and the Kingdom of God
https://www.biblegateway.com/passage/?search=Mark+10%3A17-31
17 As Jesus started on his way, a man ran up to him and fell on his knees before him. Good teacher, he asked, what must I do to inherit eternal life?
18 Why do you call me good? Jesus answered. No one is goodexcept God alone. 19 You know the commandments: You shall not murder, you shall not commit adultery, you shall not steal, you shall not give false testimony, you shall not defraud, honor your father and mother.[a]
20 Teacher, he declared, all these I have kept since I was a boy.
21 Jesus looked at him and loved him. One thing you lack, he said. Go, sell everything you have and give to the poor, and you will have treasure in heaven. Then come, follow me.
22 At this the mans face fell. He went away sad, because he had great wealth.
23 Jesus looked around and said to his disciples, How hard it is for the rich to enter the kingdom of God!
24 The disciples were amazed at his words. But Jesus said again, Children, how hard it is[ b ] to enter the kingdom of God! 25 It is easier for a camel to go through the eye of a needle than for someone who is rich to enter the kingdom of God.
26 The disciples were even more amazed, and said to each other, Who then can be saved?
27 Jesus looked at them and said, With man this is impossible, but not with God; all things are possible with God.
28 Then Peter spoke up, We have left everything to follow you!
29 Truly I tell you, Jesus replied, no one who has left home or brothers or sisters or mother or father or children or fields for me and the gospel 30 will fail to receive a hundred times as much in this present age: homes, brothers, sisters, mothers, children and fieldsalong with persecutionsand in the age to come eternal life. 31 But many who are first will be last, and the last first.
Our modern-day Pharisees wouldn't like this. We actually have a LOT of proof that they don't. Because they NEVER BRING THIS UP. They NEVER MENTION THESE Scripture passages in their "holy" pontifications and proselytizing. They'll quote you that crap, ALL DAY, about "if you don't work, you shall not eat." Know what? Just for the record and in the interest of accuracy (which never interests our modern-day Pharisees), Jesus never said that. Don't try to hang this shit on Jesus Christ. It's NOT His message. It came from yet another "middle man," the Apostle Paul (the Hard-ass):
2 Thessalonians 3 - Those Who Are Lazy

3 1-3 One more thing, friends: Pray for us. Pray that the Masters Word will simply take off and race through the country to a groundswell of response, just as it did among you. And pray that well be rescued from these scoundrels who are trying to do us in. Im finding that not all believers are believers. But the Master never lets us down. Hell stick by you and protect you from evil.
4-5 Because of the Master, we have great confidence in you. We know youre doing everything we told you and will continue doing it. May the Master take you by the hand and lead you along the path of Gods love and Christs endurance.
6-9 Our ordersbacked up by the Master, Jesusare to refuse to have anything to do with those among you who are lazy and refuse to work the way we taught you. Dont permit them to freeload on the rest. We showed you how to pull your weight when we were with you, so get on with it. We didnt sit around on our hands expecting others to take care of us. In fact, we worked our fingers to the bone, up half the night moonlighting so you wouldnt be burdened with taking care of us. And it wasnt because we didnt have a right to your support; we did. We simply wanted to provide an example of diligence, hoping it would prove contagious.
10-13 Dont you remember the rule we had when we lived with you? If you dont work, you dont eat. And now were getting reports that a bunch of lazy good-for-nothings are taking advantage of you. This must not be tolerated. We command them to get to work immediatelyno excuses, no argumentsand earn their own keep. Friends, dont slack off in doing your duty.
14-15 If anyone refuses to obey our clear command written in this letter, dont let him get by with it. Point out such a person and refuse to subsidize his freeloading. Maybe then hell think twice. But dont treat him as an enemy. Sit him down and talk about the problem as someone who cares.
16 May the Master of Peace himself give you the gift of getting along with each other at all times, in all ways. May the Master be truly among you!
17 I, Paul, bid you good-bye in my own handwriting. I do this in all my letters, so examine my signature as proof that the letter is genuine.
18 The incredible grace of our Master, Jesus Christ, be with all of you!
