3. RT/Abby Martin suck. Maybe she'll get a job on FOX News or with Glenn Beck/Alex Jones

OK I know you have good intentions and all but really, RT and Abby Martin suck. You cannot defend her any more than you would defend FOX News. If you want to defend FOX News, that is fine also. Most on DU would not agree to having FOX News videos featured and that is why RT vids have also fallen out of favor.

I'm not going to go on and on--you seem to know all the arguments and you've decided that RT and Martin have their place. I believe RT, Martin, FOX (or Shep Shepherd, perhaps the "okay" anchor at FOX?) are overwhelmingly motivated by propaganda and invested in lies. It doesn't matter if sometimes their show are okay--they are always leaving something out, always slanting the story, and the danger comes when their slant and lies affect someone who hasn't figured out that they are packaging lies (and in Martin's case, batshit conspiracy theory) in attractive packages.

Yes, all news reports have some kind of angle, but in the case of RT and FOX it's just too egregious to be accepted.

My theory?..Putin knew he could not shut up more critical left wing voices outside his country, ones highlighting human rights, gay rights abuses, as well as critical of warmongering from Putin. So one way to counter it is to have his very own leftist voice to be critical of the US for the same crimes as his own. Just to stir up trouble. Because he knew that there were few other good English speaking left of center shows out there. Democracy Now being one of the best. So he allowed strong independent voices from the left like Abby's to rant and rave to their hearts desires on American based wrongdoing. Again...so what?

So what? I'll tell you what. A news network that's sole purpose is to protect a fascist leader like Putin is not a news network. RT and Abby Martin do this both directly, by pushing a pro-Kremlin POV, and indirectly by skewing all reports (and choice of reports) not to present a progressive message but to present a message of false equivalency between the US and totalitarian nightmare states like Putin's Russia, North Korea, etc.--a message that the USA just sucks and there's no difference between it and Saudi Arabia or something. You see this on DU all the time--people who simply cannot see a report about a human rights atrocity or insane corruption somewhere in the world and say "sounds like the US!" or something, when in fact there is not much comparison at all. In that way RT is a Trojan Horse, getting in by pretending to be progressive but with an intent that is anti-democratic and promoting ignorance.

RT and especially Abby Martin have another negative effect on gullible watchers--throwing insane conspiracy theories into the mix like the US government orchestrated the Boston Marathon bombing

...which after a while affects viewers' critical thinking skills and has a very bad effect on society. FOX has had a very bad effect on the USA. RT has a similar effect. People are free to watch whatever they want but most DUers don't want that shit here.

Abby Martin was one of the best Trojan Horses.
