(704 posts)Is that Bernie can't and won't just have his meeting--raise hands with Hillary and proclaim her the nominee and his support without making sure that his supporters(those who embraced his ideas) get something for that support. It won't matter if he doesn't do that. I know many Bernie supporters who will not vote for her--period. I know others who might--if she adopts and stays true to some of these progressive ideas. But it isn't about Bernie and he'd be the first to say that.
It's about a movement.
Either Hillary embraces at least some of that movement in a concrete way--or she doesn't. And if she doesn't it won't matter how high Bernie raises her hand. People won't go along. Bernie knows this and I am sure he explained that to Obama and Hillary. His support means nothing without his supporters.
Unlike SOME(emphasis on "some" Hillary supporters--it isn't about a "cult of personality". No one has embraced Bernie because of his personality--or he'd be the first Jewish President or whatever. It's about his ideas.
The Democratic establishment can embrace or reject that(and yes--I get their will have to be some negotiation and Bernie won't get everything)but Bernie can never go to his supporters and say: "Hey--we tried. Let's support her now."
It's useless.
He has to do it the right way. Hillary supporters blasting Bernie supporters won't help anything.
