voted for some bozo. Or at least that is how it is justified in civics class. (That it was also a compromise to give slave-holding states more clout is often left unsaid except in college level courses).

Obviously, it failed this time around -- a reasonably moderate and sane and rational person won the popular vote by nearly 3 million, but the electoral college elected Caligula).

Yes, I understand the formula the electoral college follows... each state gets 2 electors plus 1 elector for each House of Representatives member. And except in Nebraska and Maine, each state gives all their electoral votes to the winner of the statewide popular vote (leaving aside the "faithless electors" issue and the details of various state laws).

Which results in smaller states having more clout on a per-capita basis than larger states. Thus giving Republicans an advantage (since large population states are mostly "blue" while small population states are mostly "red&quot .
