... who had various forms of dementia almost always showed a common characteristic: they could communicate with words that connoted emotional expression while they could not communicate facts or argue with rationality.

I just wrote the description of Trumpy's cognitive ability. It's identical to the cognitive ability commonly expressed by those who have dementia.

This was especially evident in folks who were in the early stages of Alzheimer's. Alzheimer's folks usually remain able to speak coherently for a longer time than folks with other variations of dementia, while nonetheless displaying profound memory and reasoning deficits.
