In reply to the discussion: 911 call released from that Neurotic White lady in the Park psycho over Blacks Bar-B- Q ing [View all]Ms. Toad
(38,422 posts)Technically the folks doing the barbecuing were in breach of local ordinances (I've looked at the park maps, there are places where charcoal grilling is permitted, and places where it is not. They were in a place it was not permitted. So call it in, if you feel you have to - but if you do, you'd better call it in regardless of the race of the people barbecuing. Them move on. Don't hang out for 2 hours waiting for police to come.
But the behavior of the woman who followed her down the street accusing her of being a criminal because she took a business card that she held out for her to see was also over the top. She finally left. Call and report her to the police for harassing behavior, turn the videotape that you've been making for part of the last two hours over to the police as evidence. Then let her go.
And the second dispatcher's behavior was over the top, in my opinion.
The dispatcher indicated she had the earlier report in front of her - yet she simultaneously seemed to have no clue about the streets in the area (they are clearly marked on maps of the park - that's how I found the rules) yet simultaneously insisted repeatedly that police were on the way. The dispatcher could clearly hear her tring to get away, being followed, and yelled at, and on the verge of panic.
The first dispatcher had every reason to ignore her - but should have informed her the call was low priority and would have to wait. As to the second caller, e Even though she was an idiot (almost certainly a racist idiot) for deciding to hang around to make sure the police actually arrived for a minor park violation, the woman was clearly upset - and the second dispatcher should have been working more diligently to get officers to the location - in case the woman following her and harassing her did actually have weapons. Being a racist jerk does not give someone else the right to follow you down the street, defame you, and threaten you beyond the point at which you cause an actual threat. (My perception that the dispatcher was not working diligently to get police there comes from the notes above - you can't send someone to a location of which you are ignorant, and more than 3/4 of the way through the tape she is asking questions that demonstrate she has no clue - is that an apartment complex?.)
(To her credit - the second dispatcher was trying to get her to move away - she was just not paying sufficient attention to the fact that the woman was moving away adn being followed.)
