This year is now the wettest year on record for the Tennessee River Valley area, passing the record set in 1973.

The Tennessee River Valley passed the record on Friday morning, according to Tennessee Valley Authority spokesman Travis Brickey. The 1973 record of 65.1 inches was previously the most amount of rain recorded for one year in TVA's 129 years of weather data, according to a TVA news release.

The Tennessee River Valley normally averages 51 inches of rain per year, according to the release.

And more rain is expected to fall by the start of next week.
