(8,377 posts)If I find myself in a restaurant or other business that is playing right-wing media, I I don't make an ass of myself. I enjoy the meal, leave a nice tip but then ask to speak with the manager and explain that many of his/her customers find that type of programming offensive and won't come back to their business because of that.
In about 90% of the cases that I have done this, I found that they did make a change. There is one MacDonalds that keeps Faux on and won't change. I don't frequent that business. I think I will write a letter to MacDonalds corporate today. I am a shareholder, coincidentally, so I will ask them as a shareholder to stop doing this thing that potentially offends a significant percentage of MY customers.
We may not have any alternative to using the airports (although we can still make our concerns known to management), but we certainly have a choice in restaurants.
This cuts both ways, of course. There was a Chinese buffet I frequented that played NPR quietly in the background. One day I came in and they were playing country music, so I suppose somebody complained about the NPR. I didn't say anything because country music is neutral. However, I also noticed they went out of business 6 weeks later. I'm not saying there is any connection, but ...
