...if he were going to release them at all, there's an argument that he'd be better off releasing them before the audit was completed. You don't do a new return after an audit, it's the same return. The audit documentation just adds all the ways the IRS decided you were wrong, which I suspect will rarely turn out to be to Trump's benefit.
