6. In apartments, it is actually an important thing to know to slow the spread of fires.

Even when there are violations.

I was talking about the fire to friends (who work in the school some children who died in this fire attended, by the way). These friends are NYC born and bred and probably about the mayor's age. Apparently "close the door" was drilled into the heads of the kids that age in school. Along with the acronym R A C E, which I had also never heard. It's Rescue, Alarm, Contain, Extinguish if possible or Exit.

He's repeating what was taught to him in school as one of the most important things to do if you live in an apartment and there is a fire.

I have concerns about him, but this statement isn't one of them.
