Here’s the problem: the GOP of today IS conservatism. Limited government is either never defined or is defined as preventing things that conservatives don’t want. Conservatives want government when THEY want it and it must spring fully formed from the brow of Zeus. The deficit is defined as unimportant when conservatives are in power and the end of the world when Democrats are in power.
