The foundations were laid in the late ‘40’s and early ‘50’s by Kirk, Strauss and, to borrow from Laugh-in, FBuckley. Many say Goldwater wouldn’t be welcome in today’s GOP nor would Reagan. I say that that is bullshit. Sure, Goldwater didn’t like the religionists but that didn’t stop him from opposing civil rights. Reagan was so fucking tone-deaf to civil rights as well as AIDS and gays as to be considered stupid. No, the Republican Party started down this path 70+ years ago. What has happened is both a direct result of simplistic solutions and sloganeering, a willingness to turn a blind eye to hatred and absolute fear over shifting demographics. Fear sells. They have sold it so well that they are starting to reap the whirlwind. Unfortunately, the rest of us are also caught in that whirlwind.

Sippi Cupp was a big time GOP, Gun Waving, and the Iraq war was a good idea person not too long ago. Botany May 2022 #1
