I have been a football fan most of my life, the Vols, Minnesota Vikings under Bud Grant and the Titans after they came to Tennessee although I haven't followed the sport with near the passion I once had.

However, I can't help but pick up on a cosmic tie with Roman gladiator days insofar as real or potential sociological effect (s) on our society in both expense and diversion.
