rather than with the remainder of NATO or Ukraine. However, Erdogan has also tried to remain in a friendly position with Putin.

The polls are showing that Erdogan is doing poorly and may lose in the election later this year. Whether those polls can be relied upon is another question and there is some discussion that Erdogan would relent to Sweden's bid to join NATO if he is reelected since he would have the political capital to expend.
