(14,491 posts)that would be my Seven Deadlys. With side order of salted cashews, peanut butter-filled pretzels, or just salted peanuts in a pinch.
I know, not normal for a 71 year old man.
Others....
* anything Italian sauteed in olive oil, sun-dried tomato and basil base. Grouper fillet, chicken breast or scallops are the ultimate.
* fresh from the field turnip greens cooked with country bacon drippings. Douse with apple cider vinegar at the table.
* cut white corn straight from the field, simmered in country bacon drippings in a cast iron skillet. Serve with country ham, bacon or sausage and biscuits for breakfast.
* boiled peanuts. Georgia and Carolina varieties are great, but boiled Virginia peanuts are the ultimate.
* fresh fried catfish with hushpuppies.
* Cajun Gumbo, preferably in Louisiana.
* grilled grouper sandwich on dark rye bread, open face. Alternate cocktail sauce and tarter sauces.
(disclaimer: haven't had several of those items in many years and probably never will again)
The home-made mac and cheese belongs to my wife, prepared with Velveeta.........
