Somewhere in human evolution we lost, iirc, something like 50% or better of our muscle strength compared to other apes. Not sure why. I’ve read some speculation that it had to do with a trade-off for gaining endurance for running, but no one knows for sure.

A 4 foot tall male chimp is, roughly, at least twice as strong as a 6 foot+ male human. But they aren’t trained to fight like a martial artist, so that would be a slight advantage for the human. OTOH, they’re not built like we are, don’t have the same center of gravity or pivot points, their heads/jaws are structurally tougher and they have four grasping appendages plus big canines. So they don’t have all the same points of vulnerability as a human body, which would be a disadvantage for the human.

Male chimps do hunt and kill males from ‘rival’ chimp troops in the wild. There have been numerous attacks by chimps on humans. AFAICT, the only thing that stopped them or drove them off was getting shot. No one ever fought them off.
