Whne I first tried a vape pen I was living in the mountains and when the smoke from the fires combined with the vape, I was hacking for three days. I didn't smoke pot for a long time but when I restarted after moving to a legal state it caught up with my lungs after awhile. Now it's wonderful edibles except for an occassional buzz from a one-hitter pipe. I still love the way smoking makes me feel, the scent, everything. It is a relief as you state, that it's legal, but I still kinda get a kick like I did when I was young that I was being an outlaw.

And most of all, as with you, it changes my mindset from one that can get dark into one that appreciates all the good elements of life and gives me a sense of well-being. It's also fun.
