the swimming pool at the motel where they were staying, She thought it was cute that there were a few ducks swimming with her - until she ended up in the hospital for almost a week with a severe bacterial infection that was determined to have been caused from duck poop.

I stay out of lakes and slow-moving rivers for the same reason. It's not just duck poop that can cause problems. Cow poop can too. Actually, any poop can.
