But, as soon as I planted seeds & went inside, the birds would fly down & begin eating all the seeds.
So I decided to make a scarecrow, to keep the birds from eating the newly planted seeds.
I had never made a scarecrow before.
It was pitiful, just a tall stick with another stick across for arms & I put an old hat on it & gloves on the end of the arm stick.
Of course, it didn't stop the birds from eating the seeds....It was probably the worst scarecrow ever made.
But I wanted a nice looking lawn, with no bare spots, because I was about to put the house up for sale.
So I made a new scarecrow, using a 6' pole & piece of wood across the chest area, like before.
I attached an old pair of sweat pants to the bottom part, and slid an old, blue long sleeve shirt on the "chest pole' with the sleeves coming out of each side.
Then, I made a "face" using the head of a large, old doll I had given to my dog as a toy.
I used bright red magic markers & made eyes, a nose & mouth for the face.. [The face looked a little "scary"..even to me]
After putting the hat on it, I decided to take a break before sticking it in the lawn and laid the scarecrow against the house.
Just then, my dog came out of the house and immediately ran up to where the scarecrow was and started barking ferociously at it.
(I had to laugh at that)
After I stuck it in the lawn, fewer birds would fly down to eat the lawn seed....So it was a partial success.
