(3,458 posts)I'm very sad to hear you're dealing with this. Just want to offer some words of commiseration as well as a few suggestions as I am also at the tail end of a 3-month bout of neck and upper back pain from a bulging disc and nerve compression. When I initially went to my PCP he prescribed waaayyyy too strong a steroid for me, and I was literally sick-- trembling, nauseas, and face on fire-- from the steroid. I stopped the steroid with the PCP's blessing, then after a break my orthopedist started me up on a much lower dose that I could tolerate, which did help. Steroid can be nasty, but dosed properly it can be a godsend.
Other things I've used with some success: Curamin (turmeric supplement), infrared light therapy wrap (https://a.co/d/fJQBb9j), topical NSAIDs including Aspercreme and Voltaren, plus a good, soft ice pack and heating pad alternated. And physical therapy (of course).
In any case, here's hoping you're on the road to recovery very soon. But DO listen to all the good advice here and get to the doctor PRONTO.
