259. Selena

One of my majors was Spanish and the summer between my freshman and sophmore year in 92, I felt like I should go buy some Latin music. There was slim pickings at Camelot in the mall, and I knew nothing about any of the artists, but I found a cassette of Selena's "Entre a Mi Mundo," and being the typical late teen dude, I thought, "Well, at least she's very pretty." Played the hell out of that cassette, and then Mom's cable package got updated to have Telemundo, and I realized that I had become one of the few gringo fans north of Texas (Kansas) of the fastest-rising Tejano superstar in history. I eventually got all of her CDs, including a few before she had hit it big.

Also a girlfriend introduced me to Loreena McKennitt, and I really enjoy her, especially in Autumn and Winter.
