I'd read about it years ago and ever since I've always wondered why countries that set up desalination plants don't go for something cheaper and easier, like this design (I'm sure there are other solar designs that could work, too.) Seems like California would be a perfect place for a solar desalination plant

That's entirely possible. ANY fiber is inferior to hemp. Still, "Reefer Madness" is a hoot to watch.
