Any poly relationship is going to have the parameters of the relationship outlined by compact. Some examples of such compacts. (This list is non-exhaustive obviously.)

  • We can pursue outside sexual relationships, but only as a pair.
  • We can pursue outside sexual relationships, but no intercourse.
  • We can pursue outside sexual relationships but not in our {bed, home, community...}
  • We can pursue outside sexual relationships, but I want to meet your partners first.
  • We can pursue outside casual sex, but I don't want to know anything about your partners and kept completely separate from our home-life and no serious long-term partnerings.
  • We can have sex with people other than each other, but only within this small agreed-upon group of (x) couples or (y) people.
  • We can pursue outside sexual relationships, but not of the same sexual orientation as our relationship.

Violating such an agreement would be no less of an infidelity or breach of trust.
