34. It had its positive and its negatives.

When I was young, I was too smart and too ambitious to enjoy the small town I was being raised in. All I wanted to do was get out and see the big world. I left home at 17 as an exchange student to what was then West Germany and really never went back except for brief visits.

Now what family I have left have retired or live near my sisters in the DC area, and I miss that small town and those mountains so much. I really miss having four seasons, unlike Arizona where it is basically hot or not so hot.

I went through Dallas a few times but never got to really visit it like I did Austin and San Antonio. If you get the chance, try to visit Asheville. The beauty of the Blue Ridge in that area is just breathtaking especially the turning of leaves during early fall.
