be able to figure out...how people can like or dislike someone they only "know" from limited interaction on a discussion board. I mean, it's not like these people know the whole person or anything.

If they ever met you in RL without knowing who you were, they might actually like you.

Some years ago I was posting on a discussion board for people with certain disorders. Anybody who thinks this place is crazy would think it's pretty normal compared to the other place, but anyway...

One of my friends decided to do a little experiment. She and another person with a strong personality didn't get along, so my friend created an alter ego and interacted with the other person in a totally different way. The other person "liked" this new alter ego and they got on well until the truth came to light, and then the other person was all whooping and hollering and feeling betrayed because the other person "made" her like someone she actually hated (the person behind the alter ego).

Which goes to show, I guess, that it's not really ourselves people dislike (on a discussion board, anyway), but what we say or how we say it, or how what we say is perceived by others.

But in the end, it still hurts...
