In reply to the discussion: How many States have you been to? [View all]Tommy_Carcetti
(44,520 posts)74. Not especially impressive, but here goes:

For the record, my personal ground rules on what constitutes a "visit":
To have physically "visited" a state, you must have actually set foot on the ground state itself, or on a fixed structure within that state.
Thus, layovers where you get off the plane and go into the airport count as a "visit" for me (that's how I count Texas). However, a layover where you remain on the plane does not count. (Why I don't count Alabama, where I stayed on the tarmac at the Birmingham airport). Also, driving through a state but not stopping and getting out of the car does not count as a "visit" to me.
I also don't count states that you were too young to remember visiting. My parents took us on a road trip to visit relatives in Kansas when I was 2, but since I don't remember any of it, I don't count any of those states that I "visited" on that trip.

I know. I'd love to drive that sometime. But I don't drive and am afraid of driving and heights.

Quite a few, but still missing many, but I have lived in 12 states, 21 cities.

At least 35, but I've been to at least that many countries on 4 continents too.
