In reply to the discussion: Are you a drinker, or a drunk? [View all]pokerfan
(27,677 posts)52. former functioning alcoholic, I think
It didn't destroy my life or anything. Never went through AA or anything. I just got tired of it, especially waking up with headaches. So I just decided one day to no longer have it in the house. Because if it's there, I will drink it. I will have a drink or two on special occasions (and yeah, I still love it) but I think I've pretty much made my peace with the stuff.
"I'm an alcoholic. I don't have one drink. I don't understand people who have one drink. I don't understand people who leave half a glass of wine on the table. I don't understand people who say they've had enough. How can you have enough of feeling like this? How can you not want to feel like this longer? My brain works differently."

I do get like that occasionally. Not "mean" but definitely sad or angry.

If you don't drink, then all of your stories suck and end with, 'And then I got home'

Drinker, and not a very heavy one. Alcohol is the least of my worries, substance-wise.
