Karl Theodor Körner

Abschied vom Leben

Viel gold'ne Bilder sah ich um mich schweben;
das schöne Traumbild wird zur Totenklage. -
Mut! Mut!

Farewell to life

The wound burns - rocking the pale lips -
I feel it in my heart matterm blow,
Here I stand in the marks of my days -
God, how you want! You I give myself. -

Much gold'ne pictures I saw hovering around me;
beautiful vision is to lament. -
Courage! Courage! - What do I wear so faithfully in the heart,
which must after all live there forever with me! -

And what I realized here as a shrine
what I broke quickly and youthful,
if I now's freedom if I called it love:

As bright Seraph I can see it in front of me; -
and how the senses slowly pass me
carries me a hint about tomorrow red heights. -
