Is a great month to travel in the northern hemisphere. I'm near Saratoga too. Locally I would do Mohonk Mountain House, Montreal or Quebec City. Greater US. I was going to suggest a house boat on Lake Powell but the western drought leaves it with not much water. There are some great train rides in the western US. The desert southwest is beautiful in September. Grand Canyon, Bryce Canyon and Zion park are all awesome as is Monument Valley. You could see them all in a 7 day road trip.

I haven't been overseas much but Iceland, Swiss Alps, and the Orient Express train are on my bucket list.
Have fun wherever it is you finally choose.
