my MIL would make a special version of whatever she was cooking just for me. No onions in my thanksgiving stuffing, no onions in my spaghetti sauce, no onions in my tater salad etc... Everyone else in the family was all "WTF? why does the new guy get special stuff?" and she basically told them to shut up and eat their onions. I think it was because I was the only one at the time who would side with her in wanting our steaks well-done. MIL was a terrific cook. I wish she had passed a bit of that on to her daughter.

Over time though I've grown to love onions cooked in food but still don't eat them raw. Except on a Chicago dog. For some reason, that just works. And I'll eat steak now anywhere from rare to burnt as long as there's no gristle to get in the way of my chewing. I order filets mid-rare and I'm happy no matter if they over or under cook it a bit.

I don't think I'd like pineapple in coleslaw but I love it on pizza.
