11. I know. There's positively nothing that make me feel more INHUMANE...

Dec 2011

then when I'm looking at an estimate for doggy surgery.

This same dog became ill and close to death last month.
We took him into the vet and the x-rays showed a tumor
on his spleen had ruptured and he almost bled to death.

Cost of operation? $1500...and there was a greater than
50% chance of it being malignant, so chemo after that....

The dog is almost 11 years old and has hip problems!

We left him in overnight because he wasn't even stable
enough to DO the operation. In the morning, we called
the vet and told him that we had decided to have him
put down.

Vet said "Funny thing, he stabilized overnight, he's
holding his own, and Sprocket told me he doesn't want to die today!"

So we picked him up and brought him home.

That was 41 days ago.

His tumor is still there, and we have had one relapse,
which he recovered from.

He's a "ticking time bomb", but every morning, I am
outrageously happy to see his crazy corgi ears at the
foot of the bed, barking and whining for his breakfast.

Cost of "stabilizing": $550 (minus the $100 credit from the
abscess fiasco).

Did I mention that we can't afford a used car for my
youngest daughter?
