12. this is way, way, way easier to photoshop than to actually paint

the artist would have to not only paint up close a perspective at a distance, but also account for the curvature of the tree.
not impossible, some people have a well-developed talent for this sort of thing, but way, way easier to photoshop.

until i see the flattened, unwrapped version, i'm assuming this was a photoshop and the real illusion was to make us think he actually painted it.
