Cesar Zuiderwijk, Golden Earring's drummer for 51 years, was born on this date, July 18 [View all]

Born in 1948, the same year as his bandmates George Kooymans and Barry Hay (Rinus Gerritsen is two years older).

One of the greatest drummers ever. After Keith Moon's death, the other members of The Who asked Cesar to join their band -- they'd toured with Golden Earring -- but he declined.

74 now, and still making great music. i hope he'll have many more healthy years to do so.
