(41,133 posts)In my family I was the first grandchild to be born in 1951, and my four grandparents were all still living and close to 60 years old at the time. So I have many wonderful memories of my grandparents and I'm very thankful. The really cool thing is that all 4 of my great-grandmothers were living when I was born. They all were able to see me and hold me as a baby. Sadly the great-grandfathers had already passed by that time. I have clear memories of 2 of my 4 great-grandmothers.
I really feel that family closeness and memories of the older folks is a thing that should be encouraged for all young families. The benefits to the children are much greater than any awkwardness or inconvenience that SOME families might have. Of course every situation is different and not all families can be together.
